BISON dynamic weighing gets new OIML R134 certifications
A long and challenging journey, between international laboratories and road tests under extreme conditions, to ensure excellence in dynamic vehicle weighing systems.
The year 2025 closes for iWIM with a strategically important achievement: obtaining two new OIML R134 certifications, the international reference standard for dynamic weighing systems (Weigh-In-Motion – WIM).
These are not mere formal attestations, but the concrete recognition of a long, complex and highly challenging journey that began in the summer of 2023 and ended only in the last days of December. Obtaining a certification of this level in the field of metrology applied to dynamic weighing requires rigorous planning, impeccable logistical management and the ability to put one’s technology to the test in front of the most demanding international evaluation bodies.
A partner of excellence for a high-level metrology challenge: CMI
To meet this challenge, iWIM chose to rely on one of the most authoritative and rigorous notified bodies in Europe: the Czech Metrology Institute (CMI). Working with such a prestigious body has meant subjecting our dynamic weighing systems and associated weighing sensors to extremely stringent testing, while achieving globally recognized validation.
A challenging path between lab and street for dynamic weighing sensors
The certification process took the form of a highly challenging technical journey, consisting of two macro-phases, which required operational continuity, constant coordination and considerable technical resilience on the part of our teams and our dynamic weighing solutions.
The first phase took place in the laboratory, where the systems-including the data loggers and fiber optic weighing sensors of the BISON system-were subjected to conditions far beyond normal operating limits. The tests included tests in climatic chambers with extreme temperatures, from a polar freeze of -30 °C to scorching heat of +70 °C, as well as rigorous electromagnetic compatibility tests, which are essential to ensure the stability and reliability of metrological data in WIM systems.
The on-road phase was the most challenging part of the entire process. Dynamic “in-motion” weighing tests were conducted in two different operational locations, selected to cover different traffic scenarios, loads, and installation types.
From the field: when dynamic weighing becomes truly challenging
There are aspects of road tests that technical documentation only returns through numbers, but in the field they take on a concrete dimension. The most critical sessions took place in the fall and winter months, under conditions of low temperatures and high humidity. It is precisely in these contexts that a dynamic weighing system is called upon to prove its reliability, and the systems of the BISON family responded with continuity and accuracy.
Making the validation process even more challenging was the wide speed range covered during the tests: from low speeds of 5 km/h, typical of customs, industrial and logistics gates, to real highway speeds, with heavy test vehicles pushed over 100 km/h.
A comprehensive testbed that confirmed the versatility and robustness of iWIM’s weighing sensors.
A new reference for dynamic vehicle weighing systems
With three new OIML R134 certificates, iWIM brings to market two solutions that set a new benchmark for dynamic vehicle weighing:
- BISON for HIGH SPEED: HS WIM (High Speed Weigh In Motion system) for dynamic weighing at normal traffic speeds, designed to operate in any road context, including the busiest infrastructure.
- BISON_LS: the new solution dedicated to LS WIM (Low Speed Weigh In Motion SYstem) dynamic weighing, designed for low-speed applications requiring extremely high levels of metrological accuracy. DISCOVER MORE.
These certifications confirm the maturity, robustness and reliability of the iWIM technology based on fiber-optic weighing sensors, which is now ready to face the most complex challenges of the international market.
Closing out 2025 with an accomplishment of this level is the best premise for a 2026 geared toward growth, innovation and the continued evolution of iWIM dynamic weighing systems
